Visitors to Ultralife’s booth can see how Ultralife has revolutionized the medical cart battery market by developing a truly hot-swappable 12.8V, 276.5Wh battery that is compatible with both its X5 Power System, for large carts and devices that require 120VAC, and the new X5-SuperLite – for pole/mobile carts and devices that only require USB-C power. This means that hospitals can use the same bank of batteries for all their carts, removing any worries about battery compatibility and reducing costs.
Launching at HiMSS, the X5-SuperLite utilizes one of these batteries to power up to two USB-C compatible devices simultaneously. These could be laptops or tablet computers, such as iPads, commonly used for patient record keeping. When carts need to power more than two devices simultaneously, another X5-SuperLite can be attached to the cart. Both chargers can then be connected to an optional state-of-charge indicator pendant that displays the remaining run-time of each battery, based on existing load, in one convenient place.
Both the X5-SuperLite and the X5 Power System have been designed to provide uninterruptible power. At any time during or after cart use, users can plug the power solutions into AC mains to charge the battery/batteries. When AC mains is unavailable or inconvenient, Ultralife has designed hold-up batteries for both the X5 Power System (as standard) and X5-SuperLite (optional) that can provide up to five minutes of power.
"We developed the X5 series in collaboration with Karta Healthcare, so that it would be compatible with their medical carts that feature a nesting design," explained Leon Adams, VP of Sales and Marketing at Ultralife Corporation. "HiMSS is the perfect place to showcase this technology to the medical industry, and we’re looking forward to having Karta Healthcare on the booth with us."
"We are delighted to be exhibiting with Ultralife once again," explained Reece Munro, Director of Product and Innovation at Karta Healthcare. "Our four-year partnership has led to us being able to supply medical facilities with unique products that meet their exact requirements for power solutions and medical carts. The X5-SuperLite is the latest example, as hospitals are seeking a way to streamline their carts by using only USB-C compatible laptops and tablet computers."
At the show, the experienced technical teams of both Ultralife and Karta Healthcare will be available to answer queries about the nesting medical carts and will demonstrate the X5 battery’s hot-swap capabilities.
