Teaming with Lynntech, Inc. Advances Mission-Critical Battery Charger that Lowers Cost, Reduces Pollution, is Safe, Reliable, Efficient, Portable, Renewable
Newark, New York October 1, 2008 Ultralife Corporation, in association with Lynntech, Inc. and the Army's Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC), today announced the successful completion of a 12-month (Milestone 1) development effort and a scheduled (November) delivery of its prototype MRC-201 fuel-cell charger to the CERDEC facility at the Aberdeen Proving Ground located near Aberdeen, Maryland for further testing and evaluation.
The completed milestone and scheduled delivery of the MRC-201 signifies important progress towards providing the military a seamless power alternative to charging batteries in tactical missions when access to AC and DC power is either unavailable or impractical and the weight and cost of traditional military power sources such as generators and disposable batteries pose added concerns.
Designed as a complement to other renewable energy systems such as solar and wind power, the MRC-201 fuel-cell charger runs on cartridges that contain sodium borohydride which, when mixed with water, generate hydrogen which, when consumed by the fuel cell, generates electricity. The cartridges, once expended, can be reconstituted, in effect creating a renewable fuel resource.
Scheduled for live demonstrations at the AUSA 2008 Annual Meeting and Exposition on October 6-8 in Washington, D.C. and currently available for evaluation by select customers, the MRC-201 is packaged in a rugged, light-weight, low-profile Pelican™-style case for highly-mobile applications requiring easy transport.
"The MRC-201 fuel-cell battery charger demonstrates Ultralife's capability to master a new technology for a product that can meet the requirements of our customer base," said Mark Matthews, Ultralife Corporation Vice President of Sales. "Through technology innovation as demonstrated by the MRC-201, Ultralife continues to stay on the front lines of first-to-market portable power solutions."
